Health Equity

One of my biggest passions as a physician is being an advocate for health equity. Achieving equity in healthcare is necessary if we hope to improve health outcomes. Unequal treatment due to bias, social constructs, and other unfair factors, particularly among minority (read: Black) populations, is something that we must continue to push against.

I serve on a few tasks forces and local health boards and, occasionally, I’m asked to write or speak about health inequality and health inequity in my region, state, and field. I also just like sharing my opinion (hence the blog!) so even if I’m not asked, I’m good for writing a commentary or opinion piece for local media. I’ll include some of those posts here, if you’re interested. Read them in your free time, not when you should be reading an MCAT prep book!

I encourage you, as part of your future career as a physician to always be an advocate for your patients, for your people, and for the profession.
